Can't remove recessed bathroom bulb. Cover pulled down but can't see bulb, just a metal cone. Help!!?

Trim & glass part is pulled down. I can unclip springs from the canister but trim and glass is still fixed to the metal cone-shaped thing (similar to shape of a flood bulb, but not sure what kind is inside!). And then of course the top of the cone-shaped metal thing has wires to the ceiling. I do see a (porcelain?) socket at the top of the metal cone, so I'm sure the bulb is hidden in there. But how do I get to it safely?
